Weirdest ride ever, ended up in a tow truck
Relatively uneventful start, hitched at a spot which wasn’t that great last time, but this time almost immediately an Austrian guy stopped. The guy was going back to Vienna however, so I declined. Shortly afterwards a Czech guy with a Moravian license plate pulled over and was going directly to Brno, which was awesome. Literally 2 minutes into the ride the car started making weird noises and the engine had to be turned off. He tried to reignite it but nothing happened, so he managed to pull over onto an exit ramp from the autobahn (we were going down hill luckily). He tried to reignite it several times, but nothing happened except for a shitton of smoke from the exhaust. Eventually he did manage to get it running at least on low RPMs, so we wouldn’t freeze to death. We ended up calling assistance, which sent a tow truck from Breclav. We talked a lot while waiting (took almost 3 hours, was in the absolute middle of nowhere, so hitching wasn’t really an option and I didn’t want to leave the guy alone in this shitty situation) and so we discussed why I was going to Vienna (Iranian visa), my planned trip and how he worked in both Austria and CZ as a installation guy for kitchens and furniture. It was a really interesting conversation, as he had his own business and a lot of experience. Eventually the tow truck appeared and drove us both to Breclav. It was a really awkward situation for the tow driver, as we were making all these jokes about hitchhikers bringing bad luck and Iran, so the guy was quite confused. Anyhow, he got me to Breclav where I got on a train to Brno for like 0.62 euro (thanks Babis for the populist student discounts) – it was already pitch black at that point.
